Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 87-66 on Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The win marks the Warriors' third straight victory over the Stampede and fifth consecutive win overall to improve to 10-4. The Warriors are now in first place in the West Division.
James Michael McAdoo paced the Warriors recording a game-high 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Elliot Williams added 13 points, while Dominique Sutton and Sean Kilpatrick added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Idaho was paced by Joel Wright who recorded a double-double, tallying 22 points and 16 rebounds. The only other player for the Stampede who scored in double-figures was Jerrelle Benimon, who had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Coming off of a week of rest, the Warriors were eager to race ahead with a balanced scoring effort early, putting the Warriors up 25-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Stampede rallied back to come within 1 point heading into halftime behind a 56.3% field goal percentage in the second quarter. The third quarter would see the Stampede try to stay with Santa Cruz to no avail, who were behind by 10 points at the start of the fourth period.
The Warriors would never relinquish their hold over the Stampede, leading by as much as 25 points in the fourth quarter. Santa Cruz outshot the Stampede (40.7%-33.8%), had more fast break points (23-11), had more assists (24-12), had more points in the paint (56-36), and had more steals (19-8). Idaho held the edge on rebounds (57-37) and tallied more second chance points (9-6). Both teams had 6 blocked shots apiece.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will host the Canton Charge for a two-game double-header on January 2nd and 3rd beginning at 7:00 p.m. Pacific on both nights. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
