
Waltze to coach RiverDogs

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond RiverDogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, have announced that General Manager/Head Coach Robbie S. Nichols will be leaving the team as of February 4th, 2006 and will be heading to Hoffman Estates, IL to help start up the UHL franchise in Chicago, IL. Replacing Nichols behind the RiverDogs bench will be Assistant Coach Kris Waltze. Along with the promotion of Waltze as Head Coach, will be the naming of Dan Vandermeer and Brian Goudie as Playing Assistant Coaches.
In his first season as coach of the RiverDogs, Nichols has led the team to an 18-21-4 record and currently in 3rd place in the Eastern Division. "Robbie will be very valuable in the starting up of our Chicago franchise," said RiverDogs President Jay Action. "We, Dr. Eric Margenau and myself, feel the team will be left in good hands with Kris Waltze as the new coach. Robbie will continue to oversee the RiverDogs franchise and stay on as General Manager." Nichols commented, "I have met many great people here in Richmond and made many new friendships. My wife Nellie and I will miss a lot of people. We will visit Richmond often."
The RiverDogs continue their six game home stand on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 as the team play host to division rival, Roanoke Valley Vipers. Face-off for the contest is 7:05 pm and tickets are available at the Richmond Coliseum box office or through ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com
