Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - It didn't take Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Gavin Walls long this season to prove why he is one of the most feared defensive linemen in the CFL.
The third-year Blue Bomber defender was named the Rogers CFL Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding Week Two performance in the Bombers' 32-23 win over the Montreal Alouettes. Walls collected two quarterback sacks, five defensive tackles and returned a fumble for five yards versus the Als.
In two games this season, Walls has three quarterback sacks, which ranks second in the CFL. He is also tied for third in the CFL in defensive tackles with 13 - trailing only Bomber teammates Barrin Simpson (15) and Robert Bean (14) in that category. The 2005 CFL Outstanding Rookie of the Year also has one forced fumble.
Meanwhile, Bombers' safety Greg Bearman was a runner-up as the Rogers CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Bearman recovered an Alouettes fumble for a touchdown in last week's victory at Canad Inns Stadium.
