Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs fell to the Toledo Walleyes by a score of 5-2 Friday night at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.

Looking to start the weekend off on a strong foot, the Chiefs came out of the gate in the first period with good jump and carried the play offensively in the first half of the period. However, a penalty to Jonathan Ralph for cross checking swung momentum in Toledo's favor. Just 11 seconds into the power play, Maxime Tanguay pounced on a loose puck around the crease and slid it home for a 1-0 Walleye advantage. Evan Rankin and Sal Peralta assisted on the score. John Murray did turn aside 13 Walleye shots in the frame and kept the Chiefs within striking distance.

A three-goal second period by the Walleye put the Chiefs in a tough position after 40 minutes of play. Peralta and Tanguay each beat Murray 2:16 apart within the first five and a half minutes of the frame. Rankin assisted on each continuing his strong play against the Chiefs this season. Sean Berkstresser's 15th of the season sliced the Walleye lead to two at 12:11 as he fired home a wrist shot from the left wing. Trevor Hendrikx and Murray provided the helpers. Mike Hedden re-upped Toledo's lead to three at 18:21 as he potted a rebound at the side of the cage. Murray kept Toledo from building on its lead further by stopping Rankin's penalty shot at 16:22.

Peralta capped off a three-point night with a goal at 3:13 of the third and gave Toledo its biggest lead of the evening. Bryan Marshall responded by whipping home a backhand goal at the 13:51 mark with help from Jeff Martens.

Murray made 36 saves in the loss. The Chiefs went 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
