BOISE, Idaho - Aces goalie Scott Reid stopped 31 shots but Idaho kept Alaska off the scoreboard until early in the third period of an eventual 4-1 victory in front of 4,758 Friday at Qwest Arena.

The Aces, beaten 6-2 Wednesday while out-shot 36-21, mustered just 22 shots on goal Friday as compared to 35 for the Steelheads, who own a league-best 36-12-5 overall record and are unbeaten in their last seven games (6-0-1) at home. Meanwhile, Alaska drops to 26-25-5 overall and just 9-19-1 on the road, including losses in six of their last seven games away from Sullivan Arena, where the club has not tasted defeat since January 9. The teams meet again tomorrow in the series finale at 5:10 p.m. AT, with live coverage on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM.

Mark Derlago opened the scoring with his 17th goal in 19 games for Idaho at 8:12 of the first period, a tip-in of a Dustin Friesen shot and the first of two power play goals for the Steelies. Kevin DeVergillio took an Adam Huxley rebound off the boards behind Reid and tucked home the rebound for a 2-0 advantage at 6:11 of the second period. Less than two minutes later, Ashton Rome deflected a Cody Lampl shot past Reid, and the home team breezed into the dressing room in control after 40 minutes.

Alaska managed its patented third period push (an ECHL-best seven wins when trailing after two), as Scott Burt scored on a rebound with the Aces on the power play at 1:58. Shortly thereafter, Judd Blackwater hit the post, and with Idaho goalie Richard Bachman having lost sight of the puck dangling loose in the crease, DeVergillio alertly flung the disc the length of the ice and Alaska never challenged again.

Another live hop off the dashers following a shot by Friesen led to Evan Barlow's second goal in as many nights, as he banked the rebound off Reid's skate with 16:13 remaining to account for the final margin. The Steelheads have converted four of 13 power play opportunities in this series, while the Aces have scored once in seven chances. In Friday news featuring Aces at the next level (AHL), T.J. Fast, recalled to Peoria immediately after Wednesday's Alaska loss, did not play in a Rivermen victory over Chicao, while John Lammers scored a hat trick for Providence in a win over Binghamton.
