Walleye Fall Just Short in a 1-0 Loss to South Carolina

(Toledo, OH) Joe Devin beat Jeff Lerg with a wrist shot off of the far side post at 5:35 of triple overtime as the Stingrays won Game Seven 1-0. South Carolina takes the Eastern Conference Finals four games to three. The 8,300 in attendance sets a new Toledo ECHL single game playoff record.

Toledo outshot the Stingrays 9-4 in a scoreless first period. Both goaltenders dominated in the contest as Jeff Jakaitis finished with 44 saves and Jeff Lerg with 41. The Stingrays controlled much of the play over the second and third periods as they held a 21-10 shot advantage.

The Walleye controlled much of the play in the first overtime but Jakaitis stopped all 16 shots he faced. South Carolina picked up a power play at 12:09 of the second overtime as Troy Schwab sat in the penalty box but Toledo killed off the advantage.

Martin Frk had a great scoring chance just seconds into the third overtime that hit the crossbar. Joe Devin scored his 11th goal of the playoffs at 5:35 of the third overtime to send the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup Finals.
