Walk-Off Homer Seals Sox First Home Series Win

July 17, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. -- After the Everett AquaSox (13-17) gave up a 5-0 lead, shortstop Marcus Littlewood smashed a walk-off solo home run to stamp an exclamation point on their first home series win, taking the rubber match of the five-game set with the Spokane Indians (15-15) by a score of 6-5.

Littlewood had been held hitless the entire game going into the ninth, though he did have two walks and a run scored, but belted the first pitch of the ninth inning from Indians reliever Andres Perez-Lobo over the scoreboard in right field. It was Littlewood's second career Minor League home run and first of the 2011 season.

The Sox built a 5-0 lead with three runs in the third inning on a RBI single by James Wood and a two-RBI single in the next at-bat by left-fielder Jabari Blash, a RBI single by Ethan Paquette in the fourth and a solo home run that cleared the net in left field by center-fielder Nathan Melendres in the sixth inning. It was Melendres' first career Minor League home run and with his and Littlewood's homers, the Sox totalled seven in the series.

The two teams switched positions from yesterday when the Indians lost a five-run lead and were saved by a ninth inning home run. In Sunday's game they rallied back from a 5-0 deficit with five runs all in the eighth inning, started by a grand slam by second baseman Roughned Odor, which were the first runs Sox starter Bennett Whitmore had given up in more than 14 innings. Spokane tied the game on a wild pitch by newest Everett reliever Ben Versnik.

The Frogs will look to build momentum from the thrilling victory as they head down to Salem-Keizer to start a three-game set with the Volcanoes. The Sox will send out right-hander Stephen Landazuri (3-1, 4.11 ERA) against Salem-Keizer right-hander Cameron Lamb (1-3, 4.55 ERA) at 6:35 p.m. on Fox Sports 1380.
