Bears Blasted in Homestand Finale

The Yakima Bears dropped the final game of a five-game homestand against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 16-5 Sunday night. The Volcanoes never trailed on the way to handing the Bears a second-straight loss.
The Volcanoes scored an unearned run in the first, and that was a good indicator of how the entire night would be. The Bears defense committed a total of four errors in the loss.
Salem-Keizer added five runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, and four in both the sixth and seventh innings. Four of the five Bears pitchers to take the hill Sunday were tagged with runs.
The loss went on Randy Hamrick, who allowed four earned runs and six runs total in two a third innings. In his debut with the Bears Adam Osteen started strong, as he got a double play to escape a bases loaded jam in the third inning. However, Osteen would give up a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Drew Zizinia pitched a scoreless fifth inning, but failed to retire any of the four batters he faced in the sixth and all four of those batters eventually scored. Justin Albert gave up four runs in an inning and two thirds, but only one was earned after a key error in the seventh. Greg Robinson finished the game for the Bears with two and a third scoreless innings.
Outhit 20-9 in the game, three Bears players finished with two hits in the game. Carter Bell went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Garrett Weber had a 2-for-4 day with a run scored and Steve Rodriguez ended the game 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Weber scored in the third inning off of a two-out Bell single. Four runs scored in the fifth inning, as two came in on another Bell single and the other two were scored after wild pitches by two different Volcanoes hurlers.
The Bears did take the five-game series at Yakima County Stadium against Salem-Keizer, thanks to wins in each of the first three games. Yakima is now 10-20 on the season.
The Bears travel to Tri-City the next three nights. All three games are scheduled to start at 7:15. Two right-handed pitchers are expected to start Monday's game, with Brad Wilson going for the Bears and Christian Bergman for the Dust Devils.
