Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR-Kyle Waldrop sent the Arkansas Travelers to a homestand opening victory with a home run leading off the bottom of the ninth in a 6-5 win over the Tulsa Drillers.
Waldrop's heroics were set up by another come from behind effort by the Travs offense. Trailing early 4-0, Arkansas got on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Petty . They would take the lead with a four spot in the fifth. Ian Miller opened the inning with a hustle double to centerfield, followed by Brock Hebert being hit by a pitch. Chuck Taylor doubled to score one. The Kyle Waldrop followed with a two-run single to tie the score. Waldrop would then swipe second base on the very next pitch before coming home on a Marcus Littlewood 's base hit.
Littlewood finished the night 4-4 with a pair of doubles and the one run batted in. Waldrop went 2-5 with the game-winning homer and three runs batted in.
Tulsa led 4-0 four hitters into the game. An error and two walks loaded the bases and Edwin Rios unloaded them with a grand slam to right field. Travs starter Tyler Herb would rally and pitch brilliantly after that. Herb did not allow any more runs and only two soft singles after the first inning as he pitched six frames with seven strikeouts.
The Drillers tied it in the seventh on a homer from Paul Hoenecke off reliever Brett Ash, but Ash would go on to pitch scoreless baseball in the eighth and ninth innings to earn a win and even his record at 2-2. Colt Hynes (2-1) took the loss after surrendering the walk-off blast.
The series continues Wednesday morning with a Kids Day game, first pitch set for 11:00 a.m. Right-hander Lindsey Caughel (1-2, 5.31) starts for Arkansas against righty Ivan Vieitez (1-1, 3.57) for Tulsa. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
