Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -Logan Moon shot a base-hit into right-field to score pinch-runner Humberto Arteaga in the top of the 12th inning at Hammons Field on Tuesday night to give the Naturals a 6-5 lead. Reliever, Ashton Goudeau tossed a scoreless home-half to cinch the series-opening win over the Springfield Cardinals.

The victory marked the third straight for Northwest Arkansas (13-10) and the club owns sole possession of first place in the Texas League North Division standings.

The Naturals owned an initial lead of 5-1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning. Right-hander, Christian Binford, authored seven innings of one-run baseball and struck out five batters. He finished his start by retiring the final nine hitters faced in a no-decision effort.

Northwest Arkansas built a first inning lead of 1-0 after Frank Schwindel ripped his first of two doubles on the night down the left-field line to plate Alfredo Escalera from first base off Cardinals' starter, Austin Gomber. Escalera added to the advantage in the third scoring Ruben Sosa from third, following his triple, and made it a 2-0 lead.

With the score 2-1 entering the seventh, the Naturals busted the game open against a beleaguered Springfield bullpen. With the bases loaded and no-outs, Schwindel roped his second double down the left-field line and scored two runs to extend the lead to 4-1. Mauricio Ramos drove home the third run of the seventh inning to make it a 5-1 game.

The Cardinals strung together an eighth inning rally and cut the Northwest Arkansas lead to 5-4 and tied the game with a solo home run in the ninth inning by Dickie Joe Thon off reliever, Reid Redman. Redman worked 2.1 innings and struck out three batters in his outing.

Schwindel finished 3-for-5 at the plate and has his league-best average up to .393 on the season. Schwindel has hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games and have driven home 13 runs over the course of batting .462 (24-for-52), the best by any Texas League player since April 17.

Samir Duenez extended his hitting streak to seven games while Sosa, Escalera, Moon and Jack Lopez all finished with two hits each.

Thefour-game series continues against the Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) with a day game on Wednesday, May 3 with an 11:10 a.m. first pitch from Hammons Field. Right-hander, Corey Ray (2-2, 3.60) hunts for his third consecutive victory against right-hander, Dakota Hudson (1-1, 4.37) for the Cardinals.

Join the Voice of the Naturals, Benjamin Kelly, with a 10:50 a.m. pregame show, leading up to first pitch on the flagship station of the Naturals, 92.1-FM, the Ticket.
