Waldrop Delivers Walkoff Shot, Blaze Win in 10

On Billy Hamilton Commemorative Base giveaway night, the Bakersfield Blaze and Modesto Nuts needed extra innings to decide a hotly contested affair, and on Kyle Waldrop's second homer of the night, the Blaze walked off, 6-5.
The game was a back and forth affair, with Bakersfield surging early, and Modesto middle-to-late.
The Blaze didn't wait long, either. With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the 1st, the Blaze came up with four consecutive singles off Modesto starter Geoff Parker to score two, and led 2-0.
Modesto plated a run in the 2nd off Blaze starter Carlos Gonzalez, but Bakersfield came right back in the 3rd with two more, both scoring on Juan Silverio's two-run shot to put Bakersfield up 4-1.
Modesto began the slow grind back shortly thereafter. In the 5th, the Nuts got one off Mike Dennhardt, and another unearned tally in the 6th to claw to within 4-3.
The Blaze put one back on the board in the home half, however, on Kyle Waldrop's first shot of the night, a mammoth blast to right, and the Blaze went up 5-3.
That lead did not last, as the Nuts finally got even in the 7th on a Ryan Casteel homer to center, a two-run shot off Brooks Pinckard to knot the score at 5 runs apiece.
And there it would stay into the 10th, as Jimmy Moran tossed two scoreless and Pat Doyle (W, 3-0) an uneventful top of the 10th.
But, after Nuts relievers Leuris Gomez and Kenneth Roberts kept the Blaze at bay from the 7th through the 9th, Scott Oberg entered for the 10th, and his first pitch of the inning was deposited well beyond the centerfield wall by Waldrop, sending the 1,105 fans home screaming and happy.
The win is the second in a row for the Blaze, who improve to 10-26 with the victory.
There will not be much time to celebrate, though, as the teams get right back at it at 11:30am on Sunday, with Kids Club members getting in free on Mother's Day. The Blaze will give the ball to Jonathan Moscot (0-5, 7.63), as the righty looks for his first victory, and the Nuts counter with Chris Jensen (0-3, 4.15), also looking for a win.
