Biloxi Shuckers News Release

BILOXI, MS - After shutting out the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (8-11) in back-to-back games, the Biloxi Shuckers (11-8) were blanked 4-0 on Friday night at MGM Park.

Biloxi was held to just one hit by RHP Eury Perez (W, 1-1) who struck out 12 in five innings of work. The Shuckers best chance to score came in the bottom of the second when Thomas Dillard and Freddy Zamora were plunked by back-to-back pitches with two outs. Cam Devanney stepped to the plate but flied out to center, ending the Shuckers' scoring opportunity.

Pensacola struck for an early lead in the second inning. LHP Nick Bennett (L, 1-2) issued his only walk of the night to Paul McIntosh to start the frame. The designated hitter for the Wahoos stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout to third, putting the Wahoos up 1-0. Bennett's only other run that he allowed came in the third on a solo homer by Ray-Patrick Didder, his second of the season. Bennett finished his night by retiring nine of the final 11 hitters he faced, striking out three in six frames of work.

Following Gabe Holt's double in the third, Blue Wahoos' pitching allowed just one baserunner, a walk to Thomas Dillard in the seventh. The Shuckers struck out 18 times, tying a franchise record for strikeouts in a single game.

With the series even at 2-2, Biloxi faces off against Pensacola again on Saturday night. RHP Carlos Luna (0-1, 2.08) takes the mound for Biloxi opposite Wahoos' RHP Zach McCambley (0-1, 11.68) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
