Wahoos Add Lefty Joel Bender for Saturday's Game

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Cincinnati Reds announced today that LHP Joel Bender had been added from Class-A Dayton. Bender will start tonight's game for the Blue Wahoos against the Montgomery Biscuits. Bender was a 27th round draft pick out of Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2010.

Bender has been used in a long relief and spot start role this year with the Dayton Dragons. In 43 appearances this season he has amassed a record of 6-3 with a pair of saves and a 4.67 ERA. He has struck out 67 batters over 61.2 innings while walking just 20. This will be his first stint at Double-A.

Additionally, the Blue Wahoos have received RHP Mikey O'Brien from Triple-A Louiville. He made 18 appearances including 10 starts with the Wahoos this season. He is 3-3 with a 3.71 ERA over 60.2 innings in Double-A this season. He had made seven appearances including five starts with the Bats.

In a corresponding move, the organization has placed outfielder Juan Duran on the disabled list with a right wrist contusion. He is the team leader with 17 home runs which is also a Blue Wahoos single-season record. Duran is hitting .243 this year with the Wahoos in 100 games.
