Stars' Offense Handcuffed in Loss

Mobile, AL - The Mobile BayBears leveled up their five-game series with the Huntsville Stars with a 5-1 victory Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile.

The Stars offense was only able to scratch across five hits. The only run the Stars scored was a solo homerun by pitcher Eric Marzec in the third inning. Marzec's first homerun of the year tied the game at 1-1.

Mobile broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth against Marzec(1-4). Tom Belza tripled down the right field line scoring Dallas Tarelton giving the BayBears a 2-1 lead.

The BayBears broke the game open in the sixth. With the bases loaded, Gearson Montilla recorded an rbi fielder's choice. Former Stars right fielder Mitch Haniger also scored on a wild pitch against Marzec extending Mobile's lead to 4-1.

Kevin Shackelford came in out of the Stars bullpen and allowed an rbi single to Tarelton.

Marzec went 5.1 innings and allowed six hits on four runs.

Braden Shipley(1-1), who allowed the homer to Marzec picked up the win. Shipley, worked five innings and allowed three hits.

The Stars(29-33,75-57) and the Mobile BayBears(34-26,76-53) are tied at 1-1 in their series. The series resumes Sunday. Huntsville will have LHP Jed Bradley(5-7, 4.28) on the mound. Mobile will send RHP Aaron Blair(4-1, 2.04) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 4:50 CDT on the internet only at wtkiradio.com.
