Voyagers Eliminated from Contention at Billings

Billings, MT - Despite another quality outing on the mound, the Voyagers stranded nine base runners in a 3-0 series-opening loss to the Mustangs Monday night at Dehler Park. Great Falls (13-20) has lost six straight to match a season-high, and is 4-5 against Billings in the season series. The Voyagers are 7-13 on the road, and were officially eliminated from first-half contention in the Pioneer League North Division race. The Mustangs (14-21) snapped a two-game slide and improved to 8-10 at home.
Billings only needed runs in one inning as it turned out. The Mustangs sent eight men to the plate in the second and scored three times on five base hits. Eric Yang led off the frame with a solo home run deep to left for his second of the season. Reniel Ozuna reached base with a single lined into left-center. Ozuna then stole second. With two outs, Jonathan Willems smacked an RBI double off the wall in right-center. After Reyny Reyes walked, Quin Cotton singled to right for another run and it was 3-0.
The Mustangs outhit the Voyagers 8-to-5. Great Falls left two men on base in the second, and left the bases loaded in the fifth. Matt Lloyd posted a two-hit night for Billings. Harvin Mendoza went 2-for-3 for the Voyagers.
Carlos Carreno beat Great Falls for the first time on the mound. Carreno (2-3) lasted five innings and gave up three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Jason Morgan suffered the loss for the Voyagers in a quality start. Morgan (0-3) allowed three earned runs on eight hits in six innings with one strikeout and two walks. Ian Koch worked the final two innings for Billings to earn his first save. Koch gave up one hit with two strikeouts. Great Falls plays game two of three at Billings Tuesday night.
