Billings, MT - The Voyagers posted double-digit hits for a second consecutive game and notched their most lopsided win of the season with a 9-1 victory over Billings Wednesday night at Dehler Park.
With the win, Great Falls (6-6) wrapped up its first series sweep of the season and now has its longest winning streak at three. The Voyagers have won five of six against Billings (3-8) in the season series. The Mustangs have lost four in a row.
Great Falls opened the scoring for a third straight night with a run in the top of the 1st. A throwing error on the infield allowed Ian Dawkins to reach leading off the game. Dawkins later stole second. With two outs, Romy Gonzalez lined a base hit to left-center that plated Dawkins. Billings promptly tied it with a run in the home half of the 1st. Mariel Bautista doubled up the right field line and Drew Mount punched an RBI single to left.
The Voyagers broke the tie for good in the 3rd. Ian Dawkins led off the frame with a single to left-center. Dawkins reached second on a passed ball before Logan Sowers launched a high drive deep to left over the drink rail for his second home run of the season and a 3-1 lead.
Great Falls added single runs in the 4th and the 5th. Jhoandro Alfaro produced an RBI base hit in the 4th that ricocheted off the pitcher's glove and into shallow right. In the 5th, Romy Gonzalez doubled to the wall in left-center and later scored on an error at first.
The Voyagers stretched the lead with a three-run 8th. Jhoandro Alfaro and Ian Dawkins each had RBI singles in the inning. They scored one more for good measure in the 9th as Romy Gonzalez rocked his second double of the night to the wall in right-center. Gonzalez eventually scored on a passed ball.
Greg Minier notched his first win of the season in relief. Minier (1-1) worked four scoreless innings and gave up just two singles with four strikeouts and no walks. Four Great Falls hurlers did not walk a batter. Mac Sceroler took the loss for Billings. Sceroler (0-2) lasted three-and-a-third and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Voyagers outhit the Mustangs 10-to-5. Billings committed a season-high six errors. It was the second game in row without an error for Great Falls. Romy Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ian Dawkins posted two hits with one RBI and two runs. Jhoandro Alfaro collected two hits with two RBIs.
