Vosler Homers, River Cats Fall Late

Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - A first-inning home run by left fielder Jason Vosler was not enough to power the Sacramento River Cats (43-61) to victory as a late-home run fueled a 4-2 comeback win by the Tacoma Rainiers (47-56) on Saturday.

Vosler got Sacramento up early with a towering home run. The 28-year-old lined a hanging slider from lefty Austin Warner 407 feet to right field for his 13th homer of the season (108.3 MPH exit velocity).

After trading zeros for six innings, designated hitter Jason Krizan doubled the River Cats' lead when he doubled home right fielder Austin Dean in the bottom of the seventh.

A three-run home run by Tacoma shortstop Mason McCoy in the ninth spoiled an otherwise strong outing by the Sacramento pitching staff.

The River Cats threatened in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate with one out, but were unable to extend the game as lefty Nick Ramirez notched his ninth save.

Making his first start since returning from the paternity list, righty Luis Ortiz struck out two in 2.0 scoreless innings.

Reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, right-hander Tristan Beck (4-7, 6.01) will try to close out the series with a win on Sunday. He'll rematch lefty Justus Sheffield (4-5, 6.40) at 1:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Right-handers Shelby Miller and Cody Carroll were spectacular out of the bullpen. Miller struck out three in 2.0 frames while Carroll punched out five in 2.0 innings.

Catcher Jhonny Pereda had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two walks.
