Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - A four-run top of the first was too much to overcome as the Sacramento River Cats (28-41) fell 8-3 to the El Paso Chihuahuas (39-30) on Thursday.

After quickly going down 4-0 in the top of the first, first baseman Jason Vosler got Sacramento on the board with a 405-foot solo shot against his former team (107.3 exit velocity).

Third baseman Isan Díaz made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth when he launched a towering 405-foot two-run shot (108.5 exit velocity). The 26-year-old infielder now has 13 home runs, and is averaging a big-fly every 9.54 at-bats.

Normally a steady presence on the mound, right-hander Raynel Espinal (5-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out one in 2.0 innings.

Veteran righty Cody Carroll was superb in relief, kicking off a string of 4.0 shutout innings by the Sacramento bullpen. The 29-year-old struck out two while allowing just one hit in 2.0 shutout frames.

Right-hander Tristan Beck (1-5, 7.19) looks to build off his excellent last start with a win on Orange Friday at 6:45 p.m. (PT). The Chihuahuas will bullpen Friday's game and have yet to announce who will open. Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Right-hander Kervin Castro and lefty Joey Marciano each threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, with Marciano lowering his ERA to 2.12.

Catcher Joey Bart went 2-for-4 with two singles and a run in his second start for Sacramento.
