Voracek, Pelletier cop January awards

Jakub Voracek, offensive, and Pier-Olivier Pelletier, defensive, have received Halifax Mooseheads' "Citadel Halifax Hotel Player of the Month" awards for January.

Playing in nine of Halifax's January games after returning from the World Junior Championship Jan. 9, eighteen-year-old winger Voracek recorded six goals and 13 assists, picking up at least a point in each of the Mooseheads' games, while playing at a plus eight.

Voracek's scoring outburst included multiple points in seven of the nine games, hitting the three-point total three times, earning him three-star honors on three occasions, including a first star selection for a three-point night in a 5-3 win over Rouyn-Noranda Jan. 18. His shootout goal was the winner in a 2-1 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs Jan. 20. Voracek was also named the QMJHL's offensive player of the month for January.

Voracek leads all Halifax scorers with 75 points, 24 goals and a league-leading 51 assists, and ranks fourth in league scoring, just three points from the lead, while playing in only 37 games, 18 less games than the league point's leader. He is currently working on a 16-game point's scoring streak (13 goals, 19 assists, 32 points) the second longest point's streak in the QMJHL this season.

Pelletier, playing in 11 games for the Mooseheads in January, recorded an outstanding eight wins, with just one regulation loss and one shootout loss, while registering a 2.77 goals against average and a impressive 0.910 saves percentage for the month.

The 20-year-old goaltender was a runner-up for the QMJHL's defensive player of the month award for January and received three-star honors on three occasions, being picked as the game's first star twice and second star once.

Pelletier's record on the season now stands at 22 wins, with nine regulation-time losses and five shootout losses. His 22 wins, fourth best among league goaltenders.

The awards were presented by Head Coach Cam Russell during the team's monthly luncheon at the Citadel Halifax Hotel today.
