Volquez to Make Rehab Start Tonight

RHP Edinson Volquez will make his fourth rehab start for the Louisville Bats tonight (Friday, July 9) when the Bats face the Toledo Mud Hens. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. In three starts with the Bats he has compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.81era. He has struck out 12 and walked five. In his last start in Indianapolis on July 4, he recorded the win, pitching five innings and allowing two runs.

Volquez was transferred to Louisville from Lynchburg on injury rehab assignment on Friday, June 18. He made two starts with Lynchburg, going 1-0 with a 0.00era. Overall he threw 8.0 innings, allowing three hits and zero runs. He struck out seven and walked none.

In 2009, he started nine games for the Reds, going 4-2 with a 4.35 era, prior to landing on the disabled list at the beginning of June. On August 3, he had season-ending surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament ("Tommy John") and torn fleor mass in his right elbow.

During his 2008 campaign, his first with the Reds, he went 17-6 with a 3.21 era, and was named to the National League All-Star team.
