Volcanoes snuffed out by Canadians
August 24, 2009 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - Canadians LHP Julio Ramos became the first Vancouver pitcher in franchise history to win six straight games as the C's walked out of Salem-Keizer with a 6-0 victory on Monday night. At one point in Ramos' outing, the native of La Vega, DR retired 14 batters in order to move to 6-5 on the season.
The Canadians offense may have been overshadowed by Ramos' electric arm, but the bats did pound out 11 hits off of Salem-Keizer pitching including a 2-for-4 night from RF Myrio Richard who knocked in the games first run giving him his 15th RBI of the season.
DH Kent Walton went 1-for-4 picking up his 75th hit of the season to move into 4th on the Vancouver Canadians single season hits list. Walton moved past Larry Cobb (2006) and now trails all-time hits leader Javier Herrera (2004) by just nine hits with 13 games remaining.
The victory is Vancouver's 30th of the season and moves them to within nine games of Northwest League West Division leading Salem-Keizer with 13 games to play and is the Canadians 3rd win in a row.
