KEIZER, OR - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes' Father's Day series finale against the Hillsboro Hops was a rubber match, with right-hander Raffi Vizcaino facing off against the Hops' righty pitcher, Jeferson Mejia. Ultimately, the Volcanoes won out with a comfortable 11-2 victory.

Last season, Vizcaino recorded a 2.50 ERA with eight wins and zero losses in 14 starts with the Dominican Summer League Giants in 2015. Mejia posted a 5.23 ERA for the Kane County Cougar and the Hillsboro Hops that same season.

The Hops got on the board with one run in the third inning after right fielder Billy Endris scored on a single to right by center fielder Marcus Wilson for his first RBI of the season.

However, the Volcanoes swiftly countered when a single to right field by second baseman Kevin Rivera moved Volcanoes' right fielder Ashford Fulmer to third, later scoring on a throwing error by Hops' right fielder Billy Endris.

The fourth inning saw catcher Zach Bowers scoring on a sacrifice fly to center from third baseman Chase Compton to take a 2-1 lead.

The Volcanoes' offense erupted in the fifth inning with second baseman Kevin Rivera scoring on an RBI single to left field from first baseman Leo Rojas. Compton then hit an RBI double down the right field line to bring Rojas and Bowers home.

Another throwing error - this time by Hops' shortstop Paxton De La Garza - brought Compton home for a 6-1 lead. The Volcanoes continued the onslaught as designated hitter Gustavo Cabrera scored off a Fulmer single to right.

The final run in the fifth inning came from left fielder Jean Angomas after he scored on a wild pitch.

Unfortunately for the Hops, the Volcanoes' offensive domination did not stop there as they put up three more runs in the eighth inning: Compton scored on an Angomas ground ball to center field, Fulmer singled on a line drive to right field to bring in Cabrera and the final run came from Angomas on a wild pitch by Hillsboro's Tucker Ward.

The big hitters for the Volcanoes tonight were Compton, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and three RBI's, Angomas, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI and Fulmer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI's.

The Volcanoes utilized five different pitchers, including starter Vizcaino, Cesar Yanez, Nick Sabo, Jeff Burke and Carlos Alvarado.

Volcanoes starter Vizcaino pitched three innings, giving up only one run on four hits along with six strikeouts and two walks, but got a no decision on the outing.

The win for the Volcanoes goes to Cesar Yanez who pitched two innings, giving up only one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.

The loss goes to the Hops' starter Jeferson Mejia, who pitched four and two-thirds, giving up five runs off six hits.

After getting the first series win of the season, the Volcanoes hit the road to take on the Boise Hawks. The Hawks will pitch the righty Antonio Santos while the Volcanoes' pitcher is yet to be determined. All three games in the series start at 6:15 p.m. PST.
