Mariners' Top Pick Highlights AquaSox 2016 Roster

EVERETT, Wash. - The Seattle Mariners' first selection in the 2016 draft, outfielder Kyle Lewis, will join the Everett AquaSox to begin the 2016 season. The roster for the 2016 season was announced Friday, June 17, as players and coaches began arriving in Everett.

Kyle Lewis, the Mariners' first round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, will begin his minor league career in Everett. A 6-foot-4 outfielder taken No. 11 overall out of Mercer University, Lewis will be the top pick to join the AquaSox from this year's draft. He led the Bears with a .395 batting average and belted 20 home runs on his way to being crowned Southern Conference Player of the Year for the second season in a row. The junior had a 48-game on-base streak and compiled 27 multi-hit performances in 2016, earning him first-team All-America honors from Louisville Slugger. Lewis is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award which will be announced on June 30th on ESPN's SportsCenter.

The AquaSox roster will feature three other players from the MLB.com top 30 prospect rankings. Left-handed pitcher Luiz Gohara, ranked No. 5 in the organization by MLB.com, joins Lewis in Everett. Gohara is an international signee out of São Paulo, Brazil. Dylan Thompson, a fourth round selection in 2015, ranked No. 11 in the organization by MLB.com out of South Carolina joins Everett. Also, Jake Brentz, acquired in the Mark Lowe trade last year, joins Everett in 2016.

Eleven of Seattle's top fifteen 2016 selections are anticipated to join the AquaSox to begin the season. First rounder, Kyle Lewis, Bryson Brigman (3rd), Thomas Burrows (4th), Brandon Miller (6th), Matt Festa (7th), Nick Zammarelli (8th), David Greer (10th), Michael Koval (11th), Tim Viehoff (12th), Reggie McClain (13th), and 14th rounder Kyle Davis wrap up Seattle's top 15 selections joining the AquaSox.

Five other members of the 2016 draft class are anticipated to join the AquaSox to begin the season. Jack Anderson, Paul Covelle, and Elliot Surrey will toe the rubber this season. Outfielders Eric Filia, and Austin Grebeck round out the members of this year's draft coming to Everett.

All sixteen players drafted this year have substantial college experience and should provide great baseball to the city of Everett this summer.
