Visalia Rawhide News Release
On Saturday night the Oaks played game two of a three game series against the Bakersfield Blaze. The Oaks won game one 6-2 and tried to take the series early. The Oaks had lost three of four last time to Bakersfield and would try to finish this one off before the final game was even played. The Oaks sent out their right-hander Andrew Sonnanstine vs. righty Cody Smith for the Blaze.
Neither teams scored in the first two innings but the Blaze burned the Oaks for two in the third. Nate Gold grounded into a double play with the bases loaded scoring a run and Travis Metcalf had a two out RBI single and Bakersfield lead 2-0. The Blaze would get two more runs the next inning when Kevin Mahar hit a two out two run homer his 16th of the year and Bakersfield lead 4-0.
The Oaks would score a run in the bottom of that inning to cut it to 4-1 and it would stay that way until the ninth. The Oaks would rally in the bottom of the ninth putting two runners on when Jason St. Clair hit a ball deep to left that nearly left the confines of Recreation Park but it would be a double of the wall. One run scored to make it 4-2 and the Oaks had the tying runs on second and third with only one away. The next two batters though Mark Schleicher and Carlos Ramos made outs to end the game, and the Oaks lost by the final of 4-2. On deck in the ninth if Ramos had reached was Francisco Leandro, who ended his 24 game hitting steak.
The Oaks play the rubber match on Sunday in an afternoon contest. In game three against the Blaze the Oaks will send out left-hander Mike Prochaska vs. fellow southpaw Clint Brannon for the Blaze. Sunday's action gets underway at 1:35 PM, the Radisson pre-game show begins at 1:15, you can hear all the action on KJUG AM 1270 or log onto the Web at www.kjug.com.
