Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), have partnered with Roanoke City Sheriff George McMillan for a season-long gang awareness and prevention program labeled "This is the only gang I want to belong to!"
The program, which will officially kick off on Saturday November 5th, features Sheriff McMillan, Vipers stars David Beauregard and Jamie Hodson, Roanoke City Sheriff's deputies, and a group of kids. Vipers players will incorporate the program into their school visits throughout the season as well, and a second poster giveaway night will be scheduled later in the season.
"The Roanoke City Sheriff's Office is excited to have the opportunity to work with the Roanoke Valley Vipers to promote gang prevention and awareness in our community," said Sheriff McMillan of the program. "I believe it is important to educate our children and provide them with a variety of activities, through many different positive organizations, in hopes that they will avoid becoming gang members in the future."
The first 1000 kids through the gate at the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday night will receive a "This is the only gang I want to belong to!" schedule poster, sponsored by the Vipers and Sheriff George McMillan. The posters will be handed out by Vipers staff along with some special guests from the Sheriff's office.
The Vipers will take on the Richmond RiverDogs for the second game of a two-game weekend set on Saturday, November 5th at 7:35p.m. Catch the action as your Vipers battle their division rivals - get your tickets today by calling (540) 345-PUCK or visiting tickets.com, and remember, tickets start at just $8.00!
