Calgary Vipers News Release

CALGARY - The Calgary Vipers took advantage of six Chico errors and beat the Outlaws 11-7 in the rubber game of a five game series on Wednesday night at Foothills Stadium.

In his first game with Calgary, former Outlaw Al Quintana caught and went 2-5 with an RBI. The Vipers purchased the contract of Quintana from Chico prior to the game.

Three of the six Chico errors came in the third inning, when Calgary scored two unearned runs to take the game's first lead. Two errors on third baseman Will Wright allowed Bryan Burke to reach second. Then, Manny Ayala laid down a bunt, but Chico starting pitching Demetrius Banks threw wildly to first. Both would score later in the inning on RBI singles from Jonny Kaplan and Jimmy Rohan. Rohan had three hits on the night.

The Outlaws came back with one in the fourth, as Adam Buschini led off with a double and Pat Terry drove him in with an RBI single. Buschini had three hits on the night, including a mammoth solo homer in the ninth. Terry had a couple hits and two RBIs.

Calgary added a single unearned run in the bottom of the fourth and then scored four in the fifth to break open the game. The big blow came from Wilver Perez, as he launched his tenth home run of the season over the left field wall. Quintana and Burke delivered RBI singles. In the seventh, Kaplan hit his second homer in as many days, a two run shot to left.

The Outlaws scored six runs over the final four innings off the Calgary bullpen, but it was not enough. Demetrius Banks (5-7) was victimized by the poor Outlaws defenses and took the loss. The lefty went 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits and seven runs (three earned).

Manny Ayala made his first start in two months, returning from a lower back injury. He went four innings, surrendering five hits and one run. Edward Valdez (6-3) struggled in relief, but picked up the win. The righty pitched 2.2 innings and allowed six hits and three runs.

The Outlaws out-hit Calgary 16-11, but they were not able to overcome the defensive miscues. They also left eleven runners on base.
