DES MOINES, IA - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers outrebounded the Iowa Energy 53-26 on their way to a 121-112 victory Saturday night in Des Moines, avenging a 19 point loss the night before to the Energy.
The Vipers jumped all over the Energy early, taking a 41-19 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Iowa responded with a 23-1 run, including eight points from guard Chris Lofton to tie the game at 42-42. Rio Grande Valley's Richard Roby scored four points late in the half to send the Vipers into the halftime break with a 62-54 lead.
The two teams exchanged the lead throughout the 2nd half, and with 4:06 remaining, a pair of Curtis Stinson free throws made the game 105-104 Rio Grande Valley. The Vipers then went on a 7-2 run to end any hopes of an Energy victory.
Roby led the Vipers with 34 points. Forward Jeff Adrien added 24 points and 15 rebounds in the win, which pushes Rio Grande Valley to 18-8 on the year.
Despite the loss, the Energy have now been in 1st place in their division for 128 consecutive games.
Lofton finished with 29 points on the night to lead Iowa, while Marqus Blakely added 24. Iowa is now 20-8 on the season.
