Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers have selected an MVKID who embodies outstanding character and determination in the RGV. Additionally, the MVKID is someone who is a role model in and out of the classroom.
This special guest will attend a Vipers practice, meet the players and be the MVKID of the evening at a home game.
The first-ever MVKID is 11-year-old Ashton Peña. He is a prime example of what an MVKID should be. Peña was born with Spina Bifidia, a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord do not form properly. He also developed Hydrocephalus, a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain.
In the classroom, Peña has been a multiplication bee winner, loves reading and plays chess. Around the community he is an active volunteer around McAllen and has received the key to the city of McAllen. Receiving the key to the city symbolizes the freedom of the recipient to enter and leave the city at will, as a trusted friend of city residents.
