Doyle & Dozier Combine for 47, Lead Windy City to First Home Victory
November 21, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Windy City Bulls News Release
The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the official G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, tallied their first home win of the season, 115-105 over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Wednesday evening at the Sears Centre Arena.
The night marked the first home game for Windy City players Bol Bol and Darel Poirier, as well as the return to Sears Centre Arena for former Windy City Bulls player, and Chicago native, Walt Lemon Jr.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter for the two Central division rivals. Denver Nuggets Two-Way teammates Bol and P.J. Dozier got things going for Windy City early, with Bol grabbing eight points and six rebounds, and Dozier pitching in seven points and three rebounds.
Lemon kept Fort Wayne close in the first half, leading the Mad Ants with 15 points, and dishing out three assists.
Strong play from Bol continued throughout the half and helped push the Windy City lead to as much as ten, finishing out the first 24 minutes with a near double-double, 12 points, eight rebounds, to go along with two blocks.
Fort Wayne made a late push in the second quarter behind Lemon and Stephan Hicks, with Hicks contributing seven points, seven rebounds, and four assists, to trim the Windy City lead to five. Milton Doyle answered the Mad Ants run with 14 points of his own, including a swish from half court to beat the halftime buzzer, and give the Bulls a 62-54 lead at the break.
Dozier kept the offense rolling for Windy City in the third, ending the quarter with 19 points and seven rebounds. Fort Wayne hung in close behind a strong shooting performance in the game (.464 from the floor and .471 from the three-point line) and stellar play by Lemon and Jovan Mooring in the second half. Mooring hit a key three-pointer and driving lay-up on back-to-back possessions to give the Mad Ants the lead midway through the fourth quarter, 96-93.
The combination of Dozier and Doyle proved to be too much for Fort Wayne however, as the Bulls came storming back to close out the game. Doyle (22 points, six rebounds, seven assists) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to regain the lead for Windy City, 101-96 with 4:45 remaining. Dozier (25 points, ten rebounds, five assists) banked in a sweeping right-handed lay-up to push the advantage to seven. Bol contributed a solid double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds, on 6-for-12 shooting), and Justin Simon (15 points, five rebounds, two steals) finished off the win with a breakaway two-handed slam.
Windy City (4-1) begins a three-game road trip on Friday in Greensboro before meeting the Mad Ants in Fort Wayne on Sunday and capping off the trip in Canada on Tuesday against the Raptors 905.
