
Vipers Give the Blues a 104-97 Defeat

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (9-6) defeated Delaware Blue Coats (6-9), 104-97, on Thursday morning.
RGV Vipers played to a high energy contest this morning. Both teams came out ready to impress the crowd of 5,765 young fans. Rockets assignee Isaiah Hartenstein spent no time on the court for the Vipers as he scored 16 first quarter points and added nine rebounds, one shy of a double-double. The Blue Coats kept the pressure going through the quarter to limit the damage 29-19 as the first closed out.
Delaware pressured throughout the second period of play and managed to swipe the lead from the Vipers. Jared Brownridge snuck 16 points past the RGV defense to lead Delaware on offense. A late push by the Vipers kept the game close going into the locker room, 66-62. Bruno Caboclo lit up the stat sheet as well with 17 points at the half, two steals and a lone assist.
The Vipers found their groove in the third quarter and struck for 19 points to regain the lead. Brandon Sampson added to the mix with 12 points and three assists after three quarters of play as his team led 81-80. Delaware was not budging, however, limiting the Vipers to a single point lead.
RGV fed off the electric energy in the arena and closed out the game with a 104-97 victory. Hartenstein was the big man of the night with 29 points, 20 rebounds and three assists, totaling another double-double. Caboclo drained 22 points of his own this morning in addition to 10 rebounds to tally a double-double as well.
Gary Payton II racked up 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals in his first game back as a Viper. Brownridge led the offensive charge for the Blue Coats with 26 points. Philadelphia 76ers assignee Jonah Bolden had 19 points, nine rebounds on the day to help Delaware keep pace on the road.
