
Vipers Fall to Legends 102-108

FRISCO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-3) fall against Texas Legends (4-4) on Tuesday, November 20. Brandon Sampson breaks season-high record with 26 points for the Vipers.
After one period of play the Legends claimed it with a 16-25 lead. Sampson started off hot with eight points, two 3-pointers, three field goals made and two rebounds. Keith Hornsby led the Legends with seven points and went 3-3 in field goals made and 1-1 in 3-pointers made. Collectively RGV tallied three blocked shots in the first.
Although Texas led at the half, 42-57, Sampson continued the lead for RGV with 12 points adding four defensive boards and two assists. The Vipers had a total of 20 defensive boards and three blocked shots at the half. Rashad Vaughn and Xavier Johnson both led Texas with 11 points and four field goals. Johnson led with seven rebounds. Jameel Warney collected eight points, four field goals, five rebounds and three steals.
More of the same ensued in the third period of play with the Legends continuing their lead. Despite being down 73-87 the Vipers pressed efficiently on defense. RGV had three back-to-back 3-pointers by Bruno Caboclo and two by Sampson. Rockets assignee, Zhou Qi, led the third with eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Hornsby collected double-digits with a total of 20 points in addition with seven field goals and three 3-pointers. Johnson collected a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
During the fourth, the Vipers changed the pace but wasn't enough to gain the lead. For RGV, Caboclo earned a double-double with 16 points and 10 defensive boards in addition to three blocks. Angel Rodriguez tallied 10 assists earning him a team high for the season. Mike Frazier returned to the court and earned 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal. The Legends two-way player, Daryl Macon, tallied 28 points and three assists. Johnson earned a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Warney also earned a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
