June 5, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release
Trailing 6-0 the Calgary Vipers used two late three-run home runs to defeat the Orange County Flyers 15-11 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Flyers took an early six run lead in the second inning only to see the Vipers tie the game up in the fifth inning. Once again Orange County went ahead by multiple runs at 10-6 in the seventh only to have the Vipers hit a three-run homer to tie the game. After the Flyers went ahead for a third time Calgary took their first lead in the bottom of the lead on a second three-run shot. With the victory the Snakes have won three straight games and are 9-4 on the Golden Baseball League season to remain in second place in the North Division.
At the plate Julio Ramirez and Kevin Price led the way with both going two-for-four with a three run home run and three runs scored. Drew Miller meanwhile reached base all five times successfully at four-for-four with three runs scored and two batted in.
Brian Oliver (1-0) got the win for Calgary after pitching the eighth inning while Berek Fasking threw two and a third innings scoreless and Claudio Galva pitched a scoreless ninth frame.
Orange County jumped onto the scoreboard in a big way in the top of the second inning as Ben Johnson was hit by a pitch, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch, scored on a Julian Benavidez base hit, Tyler Keeble singled, Kylee Hash walked to load the bases, pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim walked to bring in a run, Steve Boggs singled home two more, Bryan Harris loaded the bases again with a base knock, and finally Jimmy Rohan plated two with a hit for a 6-0 score.
Calgary got back into the game in the fourth inning as Drew Miller singled, Kevin Price walked, Jonny Kaplan doubled in a run, Price scored on a wild pitch, pinch-hitting Dillon O'Krane doubled in another, and scored after two wild pitches for a 6-4 game.
The Vipers tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth as Matt Edgecombe reached second base when his fly ball was dropped in right field, Julio Ramirez singled, Miller drove in one with a base hit, and Kaplan delivered a run batted in single.
Right back responded Orange County in the next half inning as Jim Goethals and Boggs walked, Rohan loaded the bases when the Vipers were unable to get an out from a rundown, Johnson hit a sacrifice fly that scored two runs including Boggs from second base, and Keith Ginter made the score 9-6 with an RBI single.
A run was added to make the score 10-6 in the top of the seventh as Goethals singled and scored on a Boggs double.
Back came Calgary in the bottom of the frame when Edgecombe singled, Ramirez walked, Miller doubled in a run, and Kevin Price smoked a three run homer to tie the game at 10-10.
Again the Flyers bounced right back in the next half inning to take a 11-10 lead as Ginter doubled and scored on a Keeble RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth the Snakes took their first lead on a three run big fly by Ramirez after Jorge Mejia and Edgecombe had singled. A couple more runs were scored for a 15-11 advantage when Miller singled, Price doubled, and O'Krane plated both with a base hit.
