South Georgia Wildcats News Release
The Tennessee Valley Vipers showed exactly why they are the defending af2 champions Saturday as they rode a dominating defensive effort by holding the South Georgia Wildcats to their lowest point output of the season in a 44-27 victory. With the win the Vipers pulled into a tie atop the af2's South Division standings.
Much like their last meeting, the 2nd quarter was once again a nightmare for the South Georgia Wildcats as the Vipers knocked South Georgia QB Darnell Kennedy out of the game, did not allow a single Wildcats drive to start past the 5 yard line and outscored the Wildcats 21-7 to take a 34-14 lead at the half and never looked back.
Vipers' QB Kevin Eakin was extremely efficient for Tennessee Valley completing 69.8% of his passes for 215 yards and 4 touchdowns. After entering the game in the 2nd quarter for the injured Kennedy, South Georgia QB Cecil Lester completed 57.1% of his passes for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Tennessee Valley wideout Jeremy Grier led all receivers with 15 receptions for 109 yards and 4 touchdowns. Clenton Rafe paced South Georgia with his best effort of the season with 12 receptions for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns.
With the win, Tennessee Valley improves to 8-3 on the season as they prepare to host the Florida Firecats next Saturday night at 7:30pm EST at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The South Georgia Wildcats fell to 8-3 with loss, as they travel to Rupp Arena next Saturday to square off against the Kentucky Horsemen.
