Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City (6-5) moved above the .500 mark with a 63-28 win over the Milwaukee Iron (4-7). The victory was the Dawgz second straight win after beating the Arkansas Twisters last week. Oklahoma City's defense was the difference in the game, forcing 10 stops, 7 sacks, and 7 turnovers, including 4 interceptions.
On the first possession of the game, Oklahoma City fumbled inside their own 20-yard line, giving the Iron the first opportunity to put points on the board. The Dawgz defense had other plans, sacking Iron QB Todd Hammel on fourth down and setting up a 32- yard TD run by Dawgz QB Robert Kent a few plays later. The teams traded two more touchdowns and ended the first quarter with Oklahoma City leading 14-7.
Milwaukee scored first in the second quarter to tie the game at 14 a piece, but the Dawgz pulled away from the Iron, scoring three straight touchdowns, including WR Al Hunt's third rushing TD of the game to take a 34-14 lead to end the first half. Hunt's touchdown was set up when DE Colin Bryant forced and recovered a Todd Hammel fumble. Dawgz DB Fred Shaw had two interceptions for 25 yards in the quarter, setting a franchise single season and career interception record with 6 INTs.
The Dawgz continued to pull away in the second half with back to back touchdowns catches from Craig Fulton Jr., stretching their lead to 47-21. Shaw extended his newly acquired interception record with his third pick of the game with 3:19 left in the third. Milwaukee had one shining moment in the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to close the Dawgz lead to 47-28. Oklahoma City answered the Iron's touchdown with one of their own, and added another 10 points to finish off Milwaukee 63-28.
