OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz are proud to announce that Putnam City West junior running back / defensive back, Johnny Smith, has been awarded the Yard Dawgz High School Athlete of the Week. Smith is the sixth athlete the Yard Dawgz have recognized this fall.
Under the direction of Head Coach John Jensen, Smith helped to secure a Patriot 30-21 victory over the Shawnee Wolves. Smith finished the night with 196 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns on offense as well as 2 interceptions on defense. One of Smith's interceptions was returned 74 yards to the one yard line. Smith crossed the goal line on the next play. Friday night's victory over the Wolves marked the first win since October 12, 2007 for the Patriots breaking a 28 game losing streak.
Each week this fall the Yard Dawgz will choose a standout high school football player to be awarded Athlete of the Week. This award will be chosen based on the student's leadership and performance both on and off the playing field.
