OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz are proud to announce that Pioneer junior quarterback / defensive back, Derek Gabriel, has been awarded the Yard Dawgz High School Athlete of the Week. Gabriel is the seventh athlete the Yard Dawgz have recognized this fall.
Under the direction of Head Coach Kurt Myers, Gabriel helped to secure a Mustang 70-47 victory over the Wellston Tigers. Gabriel finished the night with 559 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Each week this fall the Yard Dawgz will choose a standout high school football player to be awarded Athlete of the Week. This award will be chosen based on the student's leadership and performance both on and off the playing field. Week 2 - Kevonte Richardson, Millwood High School - 403 passing yards and 5 touchdowns
Week 3 - Michael Campbell, Midway High School - 356 total yards and 8 touchdowns
Week 4 - Jerame Littell, Stillwater High School - 464 yards passing and 5 touchdowns
Week 5 - Barry Sanders, Heritage Hall - 313 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns
Week 6 - Johnny Smith, Putnam City West - 196 yards rushing, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions
Week 7 - Derek Gabriel, Pioneer - 559 yards and 8 touchdowns
