Corpus Christi Sharks News Release

Corps Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Sharks (2-9) appeared to be heading to an upset win over the Dorados to keep their playoff hopes alive. A defensive to open the fourth quarter however ended the Sharks bid for an upset. Craig Turner returned a 64 yard Nick Gatto missed field goal attempt all the way back to the Corpus Christi 11 yard line which set up Nick Hill to Bret Smith 11 yard TD pass which put Rio Grande Valley (6-4) up by 10. It was a lead the Sharks would not overcome.

The Sharks did make the end interesting. Following Sedale Threatt's third rushing TD of the night which allowed the Sharks to close to within 3 point, Nick Gatto's onside kick appeared to be recovered by Sharks DB Scott Felando. In a controversial call, the official ruled that Felando never had possession of the ball and the Dorados came away from the ensuing scrum with possession and were able to run out the clock.

In his professional debut, Threatt put up decent numbers behind an offensive line that didn't provide much protection all night. Threatt was 19 of 34 for 186 yards and 2 scores. Threatt thrilled the American Bank Center crowd though with his running ability. His 23 yard scamper to pay dirt at the 7:29 mark of the fourth brought the entire arena to their feet and left potential Dorado tacklers grasping at air.

The loss probably ended any hope the Sharks had of reaching the post season. Corpus Christi sits two games out of the final playoff spot with 5 to play.

The Sharks now have to regroup before hitting the road to take on the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Corpus Christi beat the Dawgz at the ABC back on Memorial Day, but, Oklahoma City has played much better as of late posting back to back wins over Arkansas and Milwaukee. The game can be heard on ESPN 1230 beginning at 6:40 followed by a 7:05 kickoff.
