
Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings Beat Amarillo 79-77 in Overtime

Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
Amarillo, TX- The BattleWings defeated the Amarillo Dusters 79-77 in overtime in a wild game in front of 2,995 fans in Amarillo, Texas to move to 6-5 on the 2009 season. The first quarter began with both teams scoring on their first two possessions. After fumbling in the end zone, Duster quarterback JULIAN REESE ran one yard for the first touchdown of the game. The BattleWings came right back with a touchdown of their own, as MANWELL TALBERT caught a 5-yrd touchdown reception. Dusters wide receiver DUVAUGHN FLAGLER would catch a 27-yard touchdown reception and Battle Wings' ANDRICO HINES would toss an 8-yrd strike to end the quarter with the 14-13 lead.
The second quarter proved to be highly competitive, with both clubs scoring three touchdowns each.
Bossier-Shreveport wide receivers CHAVIS MCOLLISTER and BUTCHIE IBEH would catch touchdown passes, while Amarillo's ALEX WATSON, XAVIER HAIR, and DuVaughn Flagler caught touchdown passes of their own. Halftime score 35-35.
The second half began with fireworks, as a failed Amarillo onside kick turned into Bossier-Shreveport points. Running back JASON SCHULE converted a 1-yard run to give the Battle Wings the early 42-35 lead. Amarillo came right back with a 22-yard DuVaughn Flagler touchdown reception. Both offenses traded blows again, as Battle Wings wide receiver PJ BERRY would receive a touchdown pass, then Amarillo's Xavier Hair would score, then PJ Berry once more with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Alex Watson would finish the third quarter with his second touchdown catch of the game. End of the 3rd quarter, 56-56.
Bossier-Shreveport scored quickly to begin the fourth quarter, as PJ Berry scored again to lead the Battle Wings to a 63-56 lead. Dusters wide receiver Alex Watson would score his third touchdown of the game to potentially tie the ballgame. Amarillo would then fake the extra point kick and instead run the ball in for two points. Dusters had the lead 64-63 with seven minutes left in the game. Bossier-Shreveport's Buchie Ibeh and Dusters DuVaughn Flagler would then score once each to tie the game at 71-71. Bossier-Shreveport had a chance to win the game in regulation, but ART CARMODY missed a 20-yard field goal as time expired.
In overtime, the Dusters elected to receive the ball first. Amarillo quarterback Julian Reese threw a clutch touchdown pass to Alex Watson. In an attempt to go for the extra point, the Dusters fumbled the snap and the Battle Wings recovered and ran the ball back for a two-point conversion. In what would be the final drive of the game, the Battle drove the length of the field with 7:55 to go in overtime. Quarterback Andrico Hines found Manwell Talbert in the back of the endzone for the game-winning touchdown.
The BattleWings (6-5) will travel to Hidalgo, Texas next week to take on Southwest Division rival Rio Grande Valley Dorados.
