Alabama Vipers News Release
Huntsville, AL- The 2008 arenafootball2 Champion Tennessee Valley Vipers continue to make additions for the upcoming 2009 af2 season. The Vipers recently announced the af2 league office has assigned former Murray State University defensive lineman Marcus White to the team.
White, 6-4 315, played for the Racers from 2003-2005 after beginning his collegiate career at Auburn University in 2000. While at Murray State, White was First-Team All Ohio Valley Conference in 2003 after recording a team high nine sacks and 18 tackles-for-loss. He finished his collegiate career at Murray State with 12 total sacks, which is 4th all-time in Murray State football history. "I am excited to be part of a championship organization, such as the Vipers. I know the history this team has with winning, and I'm here to keep the tradition alive", said White.
After finishing his collegiate career, White spent three seasons with the NFL's Tennessee Titans. He also has AFL experience with the New Orleans Voo Doo. "I had an opportunity to see Marcus in person while he was with the Titans, and he is an excellent football player", said Vipers Head Coach Dean Cokinos. "This is a great opportunity for Marcus, as he is a great fit for arena football. We're excited to have him."
The Vipers training camp opens Saturday March 7th in the South Hall of the Von Braun Center, and the regular season begins March 28th at Green Bay. The Vipers home opener is scheduled for April 4th against the Quad City Steamwheelers. Vipers season tickets are on sale by contacting the Vipers at 256-428-HISS (4477).
