Vipers Comeback To Win In Matinee In Austin

AUSTIN, Texas- Antonio Anderson scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers came back from a nine point first half deficit to defeat the Austin Toros 97-88 Tuesday morning at the Austin Convention Center. The Vipers outscored the Toros 50-32 in the second half en route to their fourth straight victory.

Rio Grande Valley started sluggish in the opening quarter but trailed by only one at 21-20. The Toros then went on a furious second quarter run, outscoring RGV 35-27 and building their lead to as many as 10 points to take a 56-47 lead into the intermission. Alonzo Gee paced the Austin offense in the first half with 18 points.

The Vipers would trail by as many as 12 points in the third after Curtis Jerrells hit Alonzo Gee for an alley-oop dunk prompting a time- out from Vipers Head Coach Chris Finch. Following the time out, the Vipers proceeded with a 12-0 run capped off by a Mike Harris three point jumper to tie the game at 62.

The Vipers would regain the lead for good in the fourth quarter at the 10 min mark when Anderson's reverse lay-up gave RGV the 81-79 lead. The Vipers outscored the Toros 22-11 in the fourth quarter as they won in Austin for just the third time in franchise history.

Anderson matched his career high with his 28 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Harris finished three shy of his D-league career high with 27 points while adding seven boards. Harris did reach a career high in three-point baskets made with five. Houston Rockets assignee Joey Dorsey scored 10 with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Jonathan Wallace added 11 points with five assists.

Dwayne Jones led the way for Austin with 29 points with 13 boards for his fourth straight double-double. Gee's dunk in the third quarter would be his entire scoring output for the second half as he finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jerrells was solid at the point guard spot for Austin as he finished with 21 points while dishing out nine assists.

The four-game win streak for the Vipers is the longest since their four-game win streak to close out their inaugural 2007-08 season. Rio Grande Valley will try for their fifth straight win on Thursday night when they host the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. Tip-off at Dodge Arena is scheduled for 7:30.
