
Vipers avoid 4th Quarter letdown in win

Kurt Looby's thunderous dunk with 16 seconds remaining would turn out to be the game winning bucket as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers held of the Tulsa 66ers with a 99-96 win Saturday night at Spirtibank Events Center. The 66ers rallied from 15 points down to tie the game at 96 before Looby's dunk. The win for Rio Grande Valley is their fourth in their last five games, while the loss for Tulsa is their eighth straight.
The Vipers were up 89-74 with 7:33 remaining in regulation after a Marcus Hubbard free-throw. Tulsa then proceeded on a 10-0 run to pull within five points capped off by two Jeremy Kelly three-point jumpers. The Vipers increased their lead to eight points with 3:20 remaining on a three-point play by Looby which made the score 96-88. Tulsa proceeded on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 96 before Looby's game winning score.
The Vipers were led offensively by Jawad Williams,who scored 28 points while hauling in four rebounds. Jared Jordan scored 12 points and dished out a team high seven assists. Lobby scored seven, with 12 rebounds and blocked a game high six shots. Tulsa was led by Jeremy Kelly's 22 points and six assists. Ryan Humphrey and Keith Clark tallied double doubles for the 66ersw. Humphrey scored 21 with 11 boards and Clark scored 14 with a team high 12 rebounds.
The Vipers won the season series versus Tulsa with their win on Saturday night. The Vipers will go for their third straight win on Sunday afternoon when the face the 66ers again for 3:00 pm afternoon affair at Spirtbank Events Center.
