
Vicuna Erupts Leading R-Phils to Victory

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
In a back-and-forth contest, the Reading Fightin Phils scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. They defeated the Somerset Patriots (Yankees) 7-5 on Friday.
Kevin Vicuna erupted for three hits and three RBIs. Johan Rojas, Chris Sharpe and Jonathan Guzman each added two hits. AJ Graffanino had a hit and two RBI in his first appearance with the Fightins. The R-Phils' pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts.
Rojas led off the first inning with a single and advanced to second then third on a stolen base and throwing error, respectively. He scored on Graffanino's sacrifice fly.
Somerset followed by scoring a run on a sacrifice fly of its own in next half inning.
The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie by scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Three walks loaded the bases and a bases-clearing double from Jesus Bastidas gave the visitors a 4-1 lead
The Fightins regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aldrem Corredor and Wendell Rijo reached on a walk and a single, respectively. Sharpe hit an RBI double to plate Corredor and advance Rijo to third base. Vicuna batted in both runners on an RBI single. He advanced to second on Guzman's single. Graffanino picked up his second RBI of the game on a single as Vicuna scored to give the home team a 5-4 lead.
Somerset loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. Braden Zarbnisky took the mound and induced a pop out and strikeout to end the inning without giving up a run.
Sharpe doubled with one out in the bottom half. He scored on Vicuna's single, pushing the lead to two runs.
Chad Bell led off the top of the eighth with a solo homer to bring the Patriots within one run. Zarbnisky struck out the next two batters he faced. Despite surrendering two walks, he induced a groundout to end the inning.
Rojas gave the Fightins an insurance run in the bottom half. He started the frame with a single then swiped both second and third base. The R-Phils' center fielder crossed home plate on a wild pitch.
Adam Leverett started on the mound. He went 2.2 innings and gave up four runs on two hits while walking five and striking out four.
Carlo Reyes pitched for the first time in FirstEnergy Stadium this season. He entered with two outs in the third inning and got a strikeout to end it. Reyes pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and gave up just one hit.
Billy Sullivan came in for the next 1.1 innings and picked up the win in Friday's contest. He also didn't give up a run. Sullivan allowed two hits and finished with two strikeouts.
Zarbnisky gave up one run on one hit through 1.2 innings of work. He finished with three strikeouts.
Francisco Morales pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.
