Victoria Seals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Returning to Telus Field for a second consecutive night, the Victoria Seals squared off against the Edmonton Capitals in game two of a three-game series. Electing Jeff Duda (3-3) for the start, the Seals took on right-hander Chris Little (6-4) on Wednesday night.

Getting the early jump for a second game in a row, Victoria opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning with the help of a lead-off double from Wilver Perez, who would advance to third on a balk before an RBI groundout off the bat of Henry Calderon made it 1-0.

After Terrence McClain picked up a base hit to go with a double from Brian Rios, Matt Kavanaugh put the Seals up 3-0 in the first with a two-run single up the middle of the infield.

With both starters settling in for four scoreless innings, the Capitals got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth when Matt Rogelstad picked up a double, advanced to third on a throwing error and later scored on an RBI groundout courtesy of Alex Prieto.

Responding with an insurance run in the top half of the seventh, Victoria grabbed a 4-1 advantage when a pinch-hitting Josh Arhart drove home an earlier single off the of Kavanaugh.

The Capitals answered back in the bottom of the eighth, however, converting a pair of runs on back-to-back errors from the Seals outfielders. After Terrence McClain dropped a fly ball in left field, allowing Enrique Cruz to score, Colin Moro over-ran a ball in left field to open the door for Larry Bigbie and a 4-3 ball game.

Turning to Brandon Villafuerte in the ninth, the Seals closer gave up a lead-off single before Kavanaugh gunned out pinch-runner Kevin House at second en route to sealing the 4-3 Victoria win. The game two victory marks the first win for the Seals at Telus Field this season.

Jeff Duda was excellent through six innings atop the mound in a winning effort for the Seals, while Chris Little surrendered 12 hits in a losing effort. Four hits from Wilver Perez along with three singles from both Matt Kavanaugh and Terrence McClain led the Victoria offense, while Cliff Brumbaugh had two hits in a losing effort for Edmonton.
