
Toros Combine for 20 Hits in 17-6 Rout for 13th Win in a Row

The Tucson Toros swept the St. George Roadrunners with 17-6 victory Thursday night.
The win was the Toros 13th in a row which for Tucson, tying Edmonton for the longest winning streak in the GBL this season.
The win also wrapped up the Toros 4th consecutive series sweep which included the Tijuana Cimarrones, Yuma Scorpions, Edmonton Capitals and now St. George.
Tucson led 2-0 after the 1st inning, but two errors by the Toros in the 2nd lead to 3 unearned runs for the Roadrunners.
Toros starter John Bannister remained poised despite the miscues, setting down the next 7 batters and silenced the Roadrunners bats en route for the 4 hit, 7 inning performance.
Bannister also improved to 7 wins this season which ties him with two other Toro starters for the team high along with James Garcia and Albie Lopez.
The Toros backed up their pitcher by batting around in the bottom of the 3rd inning for 6 runs to reclaim the lead 8-3.
The rally was highlighted by RBI singles by 1B Cristobal Santana and RF Ron Perodin, and RBI doubles by C Luis Apodaca and LF Darren Blakely.
Blakely was one homer shy of the cycle, finishing with a single, double and triple in succession, all in his first 3 at bats, to go along with 3 RBI.
Perodin, and 3B Wally Backman Jr. both finished with 3 RBI as well, while Santana paced the club with 4 RBI in the 17-6 blowout victory.
Tucson will be right back in action at Hi Corbett Field tomorrow night for Fireworks Friday and the last chance to register to win a plane as the Toros kickoff a 2-game home series against the Yuma Scorpions to finish the season.
