Caps Raise More Than $2,000 for Eocf

Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Even though the Edmonton Capitals weren't winners against the Victoria Seals on Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation sure was, as more than $2,000 was raised for the foundation thanks to two special events hosted by the Caps at TELUS Field.

Eighteen lucky fans went home with signed, game-worn Caps jerseys, thanks to Shirts Off Our Backs Night. The fans' raffle tickets (purchased one for $2, three for $5 and 20 for $20) were selected during the game and they were invited on to the field after the final out to receive their signed jersey directly from a Caps player or coach.

More than $1,500 was raised through the raffle, and another fan gave $500 to the EOCF for a signed Jose Lima jersey. Lima, a former Major League all-star pitcher, played for the Caps last season and was an immediate fan favourite. Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this year from a heart attack. The Caps wear a commemorative patch in his honour on their 2010 uniforms.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation continues the Oilers' legacy of giving back by contributing its unique resources and financial support to charitable organizations that serve the communities of northern Alberta.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats for 2011 are now available, and fans who purchase them by Sept. 2 will received a bat autographed by the entire team. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
