Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that veteran infielders Rhyne Hughes and Yurendell de Caster have been placed on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting their unconditional release.
Hughes, 30, has encountered some health problems that will prevent him from playing this season.
"It's unfortunate for Rhyne that he can't join our ball club, but his health is the No. 1 priority and we wish him a quick recovering," Forney said.
De Caster, 34, is once again starting the season in Mexico.
The Goldeyes now have 25 players on their training camp roster, including 14 pitchers and 11 position players.
The team's annual Open House takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shaw Park. The players will take to the field at 11 a.m. to begin training camp. It is the first day individual tickets for the 2014 season go on sale.
Season ticket and nine-game mini pack information for the 2014 season is available by calling the Goldeyes office at 204-982-2273 or visiting Goldeyes.com.
