June 16, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, Mississippi)-- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League are pleased to announce the addition of veteran hockey broadcaster Bob Bakken as its new Media Coordinator.
With the RiverKings, Bakken will voice all regular season and playoff games of the team, behind the microphone at the DeSoto Civic Center and elsewhere around the CHL. He'll also coordinate all media relations activities and be assisting in the team's community relations work, corporate sales and ticket sales.
"I am excited about becoming a part of the RiverKings hockey tradition," Bakken said. "This is a great organization and I look forward to representing it with the professionalism and passion for hockey that I've brought to my broadcasts over the past several years with America's version of major junior hockey."
Bob comes to the RiverKings after voicing broadcasts of the Omaha Lancers for the past six seasons. The Omaha franchise is part of the United States Hockey League, and this season won both the league's regular season and playoff crowns. With it, the Lancers also won the USA Hockey Tier One Junior National Championship.
In his role in Omaha, Bakken was the "elder statesman" for broadcasters in the USHL, having voiced a total of 14 seasons, six in Omaha and a total of eight seasons in two stints in Sioux City, Iowa.
RiverKings' Director of Business Operations Dave "Ab" Mattice says, "I think Bob brings a lot of experience to us. He comes highly recommended from several people and I think he's going to be a great new voice for the RiverKings."
In addition to his time in the USHL, Bob has an extensive radio broadcasting background with stops in Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa and South Dakota. He has earned several awards for sports and news reporting.
The RiverKings are getting ready for the 2008-09 Central Hockey League season at the DeSoto Civic Center. Contact your RiverKings' ticket representative to purchase your tickets or for any inquiries at 662-342-1755.
