RiverKings & Gibson Guitars rock a local fan with special gift
June 16, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Chuck Enderle will be rockin' the streets of Memphis all summer long as the recipient of a limited-edition Mississippi RiverKings guitar designed by Gibson Guitars.
Only 10 of these custom RiverKings Gibson Guitars exist. Enderle, although "not proficient" in his estimation, played some guitar in high school and served as concert security for a few big names including Ted Nugent, road crew for a local garage band in Michigan, and deejay. He was ecstatic about winning the guitar at the last RiverKings game of the 2007-2008 season.
"My wife Margaret and I were both surprised and pleased when we found out that we won the guitar," Enderle said. "Margaret is a lifetime resident of Tennessee and grew to enjoy hockey in Memphis. I grew up in the Detroit area and have been a hockey fan for life. We have been season ticket holders for several years and enjoy watching games at the DCC.
"Our RiverKings guitar will have a place to hang in our den. One of our neighbors, Johnny Linn, is an avid guitar player and has cleaned and tuned it up. It sounds great when he plays it."
RiverKings Season Ticket Holders were entered into the guitar giveaway for completing a survey as well as for renewing their tickets for the 2008-2009 RiverKings season.
"We won it together," Chuck said. "I was hedging on buying season tickets for next year due to the times I missed due to work. Margaret is really the one that prompted me to buy them early and send in the questionnaires."
Margaret first fell in love with the RiverKings when the team was playing at the Mid-South Coliseum.
"I remember when Dick Holly was on Ch. 5 talking about the RiverKings - that's how I found out about the team," Margaret said. "Hockey wasn't really publicized then. But it was something new in Memphis, and when there was something new in town, you always went to it!"
Margaret found a fellow hockey fan in Chuck, who grew up in Detroit and loved the Red Wings. It wasn't long after they started dating that he began attending hockey games with her. Soon they were season ticket holders, and then part of a community of friends made up of other RiverKings fans.
"I really enjoy the sport," Margaret said. "As a season ticket holder, I like having my own seat and knowing all the other regular visitors and season ticket holders sitting in the seats nearby mine."
Margaret, who describes herself as "the quiet one in the family," said she was very pleased to win the custom Gibson guitar.
"It was a real shocker," she said. "We both like music - he more so than I. He was a deejay when he was younger. He grew up in the city with the DooWops and I grew up in the country with country music."
Margaret hails from Saltillo in Tennessee's Hardin County on the Tennessee River, where the pair is currently renovating her family's property so they can retire there one day. "Retirement's a ways away, though," she said, laughing. At least while they wait, this couple will have plenty of common pastimes to enjoy - good music and great sport at the DeSoto Civic Center, home to the Mississippi RiverKings.
Maddox Hockey, Inc., or the Mississippi RiverKings, is a for-profit entity supported in part by Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss. The Foundation created Maddox Hockey in 2002 as a program-related investment, to lessen the burden of the Desoto County government by increasing the viability of the Desoto Civic Center and promoting the long-term economic development of the community. The Foundation now uses the team in a variety of programs that increase investments in area charities and their causes.
