
Vermont Snaps Losing Streak With 7-1 Win Over Brooklyn

BURLINGTON, VT --- Eli White went 3-for-4 with a run, double and an RBI while starter Ivan Andueza allowed one run on three hits over five innings as the Vermont Lake Monsters snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.
The Lake Monsters scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. After a one-out White double, Nate Mondou reached on a throwing error by third baseman Jay Jabs to put runners on second and thid. Miguel Mercedes followed with an RBI groundout for the first unearned run of the inning.
Nick Collins made it 2-0 with a line drive double to left center and Eric Marinez followed with an RBI single to right. The Lake Monsters added another unearned run in the second on a fielding error after a Steven Pallares walk and White single. Vermont had entered the game having scored just 16 unearned runs on the season.
Brooklyn got its only run off Andueza in the fourth on a walk, single and run-scoring wild pitch. Andueza (2-2) ended the night with two walks and three strikeouts to go along with the three hits alllowed. Relievers Tyler Painton and Dalton Sawyer (second save) both tossed two scoreless innings, combining to give up two hits with three walks and four strikeouts over the final four innings.
Game stayed 4-1 until the eighth when the Lake Monsters tacked on three insurance runs on a Luis Barrera RBI single, White bases loaded walk and a run-scoring wild pitch. Barrera finished 2-for-5 with the RBI single, while Mondou doubled in the seventh inning and has now reached base safely by hit or error in 21 straight games. Pallares also went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored for Vermont (18-23).
Starter Justin Dunn (1-1) allowed the four unearned runs on five hits over the first three innings to take the loss for Brooklyn (21-20), which had a six-game winning streak snapped with the loss. Reliever Nabil Crismatt did toss four scoreless innings for the Cyclones with four hits allowed and four strikeouts.
Vermont continues the six-game homestand with the first of a three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers on Sunday at Centennial Field starting at 5:05 pm. It is the second of three "Hot Dog Heaven" nights with 25-cent hot dogs on sale and also "Have A Catch" on the field following the game.
