Brooklyn's Win Streak Snapped At Six, Fall In Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT - July 30, 2016 - The Cyclones saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, as they fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters by the score of 7-1. RHP Justin Dunn (1-1) was the hard-luck loser, as a pair of errors with him on the mound led to four unearned runs early on.

Vermont got things started early after Eli White connected on a one-out double in the bottom of the first and, after a fielding error from 3B Jay Jabs, came around to score on an RBI groundout from Miguel Mercedes to open the scoring and give the Monsters a 1-0 advantage. Nick Collins followed with an RBI double and Eric Martinez added a run-scoring single to make it 3-0 after one inning, with all three runs unearned.

Vermont tacked on another run in the bottom of the second when Steve Pallares came around to score on a fielding error from Colby Woodmansee to push their advantage to 4-0.

The Cyclones lone run came in the fourth when Woodmansee singled to start the frame and advance to second on a Desmond Lindsay walked. Gene Cone followed with a soft ground ball, for the second out of the frame, but both runners were able to move into scoring position. With Darryl Knight batting, Vermont starter Ivan Adnueza (2-2) uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Woodmansee to score and trim the Brooklyn deficit to 4-1.

Dunn, who allowed four unearned runs on five hits over his 3.0 innings on the mound gave way to Nabil Crismatt to start the fourth. The righthander tossed 4.0 shutout innings of relief, keeping the Cyclones in the game, but the Lake Monsters were able to tack on insurance runs in the eighth. Alejandro Castro retired the first batter he faced when issued a pair of walks and a pair of singles which led to a run before the righthander departed with the bases loaded. Dillon Becker then issued a free pass with the bags full to force home a run, and the uncorked a wild pitch, allowing another run to score, and push Vermont's advantage to 7-1.

Brooklyn will look to start another winning streak when they take on the Aberdeen IronBirds at MCU Park on Sunday to open a three-game series with the Orioles affiliate. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Wilmer Flores "Tears to Cheers" Bobblehead plus it will be Harry Potter Day at the ballpark.
